She also was named Sena and Lena. She was the fourth child of Ole Halvorsen Tømmerås Garnes, b 29.06.1835, d 18.03.1919 and Karen Maria Andreasdatter Holmen, b 1854, d approx. 1940.
When she was 27, her father died and Hansena was approx. 49 years when her mother died.
She married Carl Hanson on 06.09.1915 in Stanley, North Dakota, USA.
She died on 09.12.1949 in White Earth, aged 58. Buried 12.12.1949, White Earth Cemetery. Her husband Carl died on 01.06.1939, 10 years before her.
Hansine's entire family emigrated to America in 1903
Hansine grew up on Bergstua in Inndalen, Verdal. Bergstua (gnr 224, bnr 5), has been a «husmannsplass» from a long time ago. The place also has its own place in Norwegian history, as it was at Bergstua that Major Eilerik Visborg defeated the forces of the Swedish Colonel Drakenberg in 1658 and thus contributed to Trøndelag being won back to Norway. Major Visborg also has his own statue at Steine, erected by the Inndal Youth Association in 1908.
In 1903, Hansena's family (mother, father and 4 daughters) emigrated to Minnesota in the USA. Two years before, Hansena's sister Anne and brother Ole Konrad had emigrated to Campbell, Minnesota. In America the family called themselves Garness, but when they arrived they were registered as Bergstuen.
For several years Hansena worked as a cook in the Great Northern Hotel in Williston, Williams County, North Dakota, and continued in that capacity in the Ogema Hotel in White Earth after she married Carl.
Hansena lived in White Earth all her adult life, for almost 30 years. According to the obituary in «The Powers Lake Herald» 16.12.1949, the funeral service took place 12.12.1949 at White Earth Lutheran church. She died at Powers Lake hospital where, according to the death certificate, she was admitted the day before she died. On her death certificate, the date of birth is given as 2 July 1890. That must be wrong because according to the church register from Vuku church, Verdal, she was born on 30 June 1891.
Hansine had 5 siblings, all born in Bergstua
Hansine's parents Karen Maria Andreasdatter and Ole Halvorsen both had children with other partners before they married in Verdal in 1883. At the time of their marriage, they lived and worked on the farm Skavhaug Nedre in Verdal, but soon after moved to the «husmannsplass» Bergstua. In the 1891 census, Ole was registered as «Husmann» with land.
Hansine's mother, Karen Maria, was born in 1854 at Ner-Holmen, Verdal, and was the daughter of unmarried parents Andreas Eriksen Ner-Holmen and Andrea Pedersdatter Indal.
Hansine's father, Ole Halvorsen, was born in Meråker, Trøndelag, in 1835, son of the farmer Halvor Iversen Tømmeråsmo. He came to the farm Østgrundvald in Verdal in 1851 where he was «tjeneste-gutt». In 1859 he was «tjeneste-gutt» on the farm Steine in Verdal.
In addition to Hansine they had 5 children, all born in Bergstua:
1. Anne Olsdatter, b 27.08.1883 d 28.11.1928. She emigrated to Campbell, Minnesota, in March 1901 and was married the same year to Bernt Martin (Ben) Breding, b 1872 at Bredingsberget, son of Bardo Olsen Breding. In 1903 they moved to Powers Lake in North Dakota and became farmers there. Anne died in 1928. In 1935, Bernt moved to Great Falls, Montana, where he died in 1951. 11 children, 8 of whom grew up.
2. Ole Konrad Olsen, b 30.09.1885, d 15.12.1966. He emigrated to Campbell, Minnesota together with his sister Anne in March 1901. We otherwise know about Konrad that he lived with his mother in Powers Lake in 1920 and 1930, and that he ran a milk business there. He died in Sunburst, Toole, Montana, on Christmas Eve 1966, unmarried.
3. Anna Pauline Olsdatter, b 27.04.1888, d 09.1966. Married in America in 1912 to Martin Olsen Enget. Martin was born in 1879 at Hellvald (Lassenget) to parents Ole Olsen and Marta Andersdatter. The family, who were Baptists, came to Elverhøy, a part of Øver-Hofstad farm in 1894, and the whole family emigrated to America by the turn of the century and took Enget as their family name. Martin emigrated in 1902. In 1910 he lived on his parents' farm in Coleville, Burke, North Dakota (by the way, neighbors with the Breding family). In 1920, Anna and Martin had probably taken over the farm from his father, because the residential address is the same as in 1910. They had 10 children. Martin died in 1955 and Anna in 1966, both in Powers Lake.
4. Olianna Olsdatter, b 27.06.1895, d 17.06.1982. In 1920 she lived with her sister Hansine in Powers Lake and worked at her brother-in-law's hotel. She was then married to Arthur F. Hansine had 4 half-siblings, one got a personal greeting from President Eisenhower
Hansine had two half-siblings that her mother, Karen Maria, had before she married:
1. Anneus Ellingsen, born 1874 in Allmenningen, Verdal. Father: Elling Ellevsen Inndal Østre. Anneus Ellingsen emigrated to Osakis, Minnesota, in March 1901. His half-siblings Anne and Ole Konrad emigrated at the same time as Anneus.
2. Mette Anneusdatter, born 1879 at Haga, Verdal, died 1979. Father: Anneus Nilsen Høgnes, b 1853 in Stormoen). Married in 1897 to Anneus Olaussen Korsveggjerdet, b 1864. Lived at Korsveggjalet in Verdal, they had 8 children.
Hansine also had two half-siblings that her father, Ole Halvorsen, had from his first marriage. Ole was «tjeneste-gutt» on the Steine farm, Verdal, when he was married for the first time in 1859 to Anne Olsdatter Hjeldevald, b 1831. Her parents were Ole Olsen Rognhaugen and wife Maren Bardosdatter Hjeldevald. Anne was the sister of Bardo Olsen Breding. Ole Halvorsen and his first wife was «husmann» in Garlia, a part of Garnes farm around 1860, and were there at least until 1879, because Anne died there that year. They had two children:
3. Ole Olsen, born 1859 at Hellanvald, d 1960. He served in the cavalry as a trumpeter and lived in Levanger in 1884, by the instrument maker Isaksen in Brogaden. He emigrated to America in 1886. In 1902 they came to Powers Lake in North Dakota at the head of a group of Baptists and started as settlers and lived there ever since. Ole Garnes became a pioneer for the settlers in Powers Lake. He opened a store and post office and was the first postmaster in Powers Lake. Beret Marta died in 1948, while Ole was 101 1/2 years old when he died in 1960. On his 100th birthday, he received a personal greeting from President Eisenhower and honors from the city and the US Postal Service. Ole and Beret Marta had 10 children.

I følge nekrologen i «The Powers Lake Herald» 16.12.1949, ble begravelsesseremonien holdt 12.12.1949 i White Earth Lutheran church.

- Nekrolog for Hansines søster Olianna.
